In response to Raskin’s call to testify, van der Veen demanded that the trial end on Saturday without witnesses. But if there were to be witnesses, he said he would need “over 100 testimonies,” including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“None of these statements should be made by Zoom. We did not make this hearing from Zoom. These statements should be made in person at my Philly-delphia office,” said van der Veen, laughing in the chamber.
“I don’t know why you’re laughing,” said van der Veen.
“It’s a civil process. That’s how lawyers do it,” said van der Veen. “We’ll send you a deposit.”
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), The interim Senate President in charge of the process, called for order in the chamber.
“I haven’t laughed at any of you, and there is nothing ridiculous here,” said van der Veen.
